Only three books finished this month, started about thirty, but just don’t have the energy/inclination to read right now even though all the books I’ve started seem as though they will be really good.
Also been working on other projects which has taken up a lot of my time along with trying to catch up with my reviews.
I was given this to review and was so pleased to receive it as I’m a huge fan of Martin Rowson and his political cartoons.
This book is a tongue-firmly-in-cheek look at the state of British politics currently and in my biased opinion spot-on.
The cartoons are of Martin’s usual high-quality and I absolutely love Beryl from Birmingham (though I am actually a wee bit frightened of her.
Bob Marshall Andrews is such a witty writer and this comes through here so clearly; dry, scathing, and totally on-point. Written in the style of a book to teach children and get them involved this is hilarious.
Another book I was given as a review copy in my continuing journey of reading books that have been translated.
I was captivated from the start, wonderful writing and a beautiful translation from Chris Andrews. I was mesmerised by the quality of words and when I had to put this down it was so reluctantly.
Descriptive, emotional, vivid, languid, and much much more. There is a sense of oppression that is almost tangible, but all the more beautiful for it.
I would recommend this to absolutely everyone.
This book was purchased from Oswell’s in Barnard Castle, every time I go in I have to buy something from this wonderful little shop.
A great little collection of essay and tips to help with writing a novel.
There are excerpts from many a famous book with the author explaining why these parts were good/useful in the context of the section you are reading.
Well thought out and well written little book.
