Christmas Window

We asked all the bookshops to answer three Christmas questions:

1. What is your favourite Christmas book?
Nigella Christmas, easy to follow recipes and reassuring advice. Once this tome is in the kitchen, Christmas is firmly on it’s way!

2. What books should we look out for this December? Adult fiction, children’s fiction and non-fiction
Fave adult fiction – Transcription by Kate Atkinson, part spy novel, part mystery it’s utterly intriguing and contains her trademark wit. Her lead character Juliet Armstrong will have you cheering for her until the end!

Fave children’s fiction – Watership Down by Richard Adams reissued in a beautiful hardback edition. The 1st book to make me cry! I was given this classic for Christmas in 1976, I was 12 and immediately loved it.

Local Author Event

Fave non fiction – Glimpses of Eden (Field notes from the edge of eternity) by Jonathan Tulloch. A round-the-year anthology of nature writing from his home in North Yorkshire, enriched by Jonathan’s reflections on the eternal stories nature can teach us.

3. Have you any events going on in December?
Bloomin Words Cabaret Wed 5th Dec, an evening of music, comedy and spoken word unique for Thirsk. Tickets £10 ea from the bookshop.
